The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America

"...to promote ethical standards and professionalism in the antiquarian book trade, to encourage the collecting and preservation of rare and antiquarian books and related materials..."

Since 1949, the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA) has helped people in the U.S. and beyond celebrate rare and antiquarian books. The ABAA provides a forum for antiquarian booklovers to buy, sell, discuss, appraise and enjoy books. For new bibliophiles eager to learn, ABAA staff know where to direct you. ABAA members are the experts to contact if you are searching for (or wish to sell) antiquarian books, autographs and manuscripts, maps and prints, and rare ephemera.

Booksellers who wish to make the leap to join the ABAA should know there's much more to membership than a fee. Members must abide by the ABAA's strict Code of Ethics to ensure all interactions are conducted with integrity and transparency. An ABAA member must demonstrate their extensive knowledge, professionalism and reputation before being considered, and must have a current ABAA member sponsor their application. The association takes pride in its well-deserved reputation of expertise and trust, and expects all members to further uphold that tradition. Members take their place very seriously as well, with the average ABAA member having over two decades of experience in the antiquarian book business.

Of the thousands of booksellers who list their books for sale on the AbeBooks websites, ~300 are members of the ABAA, and offer some of the finest, most unusual, collectible and beautiful books in the world. All told, over 400 experts are proud to be a part of the ABAA, and come from as fascinatingly diverse a background as can be imagined. From poets to pilots and beyond, all manner of people from every corner of the country come together in the ABAA to devote their time to the joy of book study and collection.
